I'm launching my Blog and for the first post, I chose a theme that accompany me for almost my entire career: Leadership. This is a theme that instigates me. First due to the huge variety of concepts, theories, models, literature, as well as workshops and development programs that can support the exercise of this role. Second, because I am fascinated by the power of influence – and with it the great responsibility – that the exercise of this role has in practically all the contexts we are in, from the family environment to politics.
Even so, many professionals arrive at their first formal leadership position feeling unprepared, with a certain insecurity about what to do and how to do it, trying to discover their own leadership style and how to situate themselves in this new context.
We often follow an automatic mental process of reflecting on what is missing to be a leader, or what is missing to be the leader we want to be. And we forget that throughout our lives we learn a lot about leadership, long before we even perceive ourselves inserted in the organizational context.
Since we were little, at school, with friends, in college, in the family and at work, we had countless experiences as leaders and team members without realizing it. These experiences somehow shaped our perception of leadership and give us clues to the characteristics we possess as leaders. How can we then take advantage of, reinforce and strengthen what is often already present? How can we leverage existing knowledge, experiences and personal characteristics to be the leader we want to be?
With that in mind, I consolidated my experiences throughout the coaching processes, as a designer of leadership development programs, interactions with leaders from different sectors and levels of seniority, as a leader and as a team member, contemplating my learnings, mistakes and successes. This exercise inspired my own leadership model. A model that includes what I consider essential in the exercise of this role: ETHICS Leadership Model.
Want to know more?
In the next few days I will share more about the model and how your own experiences and personal characteristics can support you in the exercise of leadership!
In the meantime, please answer this poll:
